New Delhi (Vishvas News). Australia defeated India to win the title for the sixth time in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. During this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present at the stadium and along with Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles presented the World Cup trophy to the captain of the Australian team. In this context, a clip is circulating on social media in which the Prime Minister allegedly ignored the Australian captain after giving him the trophy. In the viral video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be seen leaving the stage where the captain of the Australian team was present with the trophy.
Vishvas News in its investigation found this claim to be misleading. The clip that went viral is a snippet of the entire incident being shared out of context. In the original video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles can be seen giving the trophy to Australian team captain Pat Cummins and then shaking hands with him. He and Marles then walk off the stage and meet other Australian players.

social media user ‘c_r_i_c_k_e_t_l_o_v_e_r315’ shared the viral video (archive Connection), in which the captain of the Australian team is seen standing on stage and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen walking away from the stage.
Many other users on various social media platforms have shared this video with similar and similar claims.

The viral video is of 15 seconds in which Team Australia captain Pat Cummins is on stage with the trophy in hand and Prime Minister Narendra Modi walks past the stage along with the Australian Deputy Prime Minister without meeting him. This is the most common way to share misinformation on social media, where a few seconds of footage is shared out of context.
Watching the viral video, it’s clear that it’s the middle frame that’s been taken out of context. On a Google reverse image search of the viral video’s key frames, we found several other photos related to the same frame of the verified X handler of news agency ANI that make the context of the viral clip clear.
A total of four pictures are shared in the ANI post showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi shaking hands with the captain of the Australian team and handing him the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 trophy. This can be clearly seen in the frame-by-frame comparison of the original video compared to the frame-by-frame of the viral video in the following collage.

X user Surya Pratap Shahi shared his verified X handle (archive ConnectionWhile sharing the viral clip, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accused of insulting the spirit of sports.
In his post, Bharatiya Janata Party national media panelist and Bihar BJP spokesperson Jairam Viplav posted a long video ( archive Connection), in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the Australian Deputy Prime Minister, is clearly seen coming on stage and giving the World Cup trophy to the captain of the Australian team and also shaking hands with him. Afterwards, both also meet other Australian team players present on the field.
Another X user Abhinav Prakash (archive Connection) also shared an unedited clip of this incident in which PM Modi can be seen giving the World Cup trophy to the captain of the Australian team and shaking his hand.
Our investigation has clarified that the viral video is a selected excerpt from the original incident that is being shared with a misleading claim. Dainik Jagran sports editor Abhishek Tripathi said the viral video was part of the picture. Prime Minister Modi along with the Australian Deputy Prime Minister gave the trophy to Pat Cummins, shook hands with him and left from there.
