36 laborers are trapped in a tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. This happened due to landslide in the tunnel. Road construction work is going on on Yamunotri National Highway. Under this, a tunnel is also being constructed from Silkyara to Dandalgaon. As soon as the information was received, the rescue team immediately reached the spot. Efforts are on to evacuate the workers from the tunnel.

According to the information, more than 36 laborers were working inside the tunnel. District Disaster Management Uttarkashi has confirmed this accident. Officials who reached the spot said that the workers are being rescued. The work of removing the debris is going on due to the efforts of SDRF and the related company. Five 108 ambulances have been deployed along with the local police at the spot.

SDRF and other rescue teams present on the spot

ADG Law and Order AP Anshuman said that there is no news of any casualty so far. SDRF and other rescue teams have reached the spot along with the police force. This accident happened at 5:00 am on Sunday. This landslide occurred at a distance of 200 meters from the tunnel entrance towards Silkyara. Many laborers were working there at that time.

The tunnel will be ready by March 2024

The length of this tunnel being prepared under the Allweather Road Project is to be 4.5 km, out of which construction of four km has been completed. The target was to complete this tunnel in September 2023, but it has now been extended to March 2024. The tunnel is being constructed by Navyuga Company under the direction of NHIDCL.

All the workers trapped inside the tunnel are safe

As soon as information about the incident was received, Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police Arpan Yaduvanshi immediately reached the spot and took charge of the rescue operations himself. It is being told that sufficient oxygen cylinders are available for the workers in the tunnel. An additional oxygen pipe has also been delivered inside the tunnel, all the workers are safe inside the tunnel. Arpan Yaduvanshi said that soon the debris will be removed from inside the tunnel.
