Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy has passed away at the age of 75. He breathed his last in a hospital in Mumbai late on Tuesday night after a long illness. After the demise of Saharashree, there has been a wave of mourning in the political circles also. Samajwadi Party chief and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav has described the demise of the Sahara chief as a personal loss.

Sahara Group had built a huge empire
Born on June 10, 1948 in Araria, Bihar, Roy was counted among the great businessmen of India. He created a huge empire of Sahara Group in the country which extended to other sectors along with real estate. After reaching great heights in the business world, the Sahara chief also had to face legal challenges.
In 2014, the Supreme Court had ordered his detention due to his absence from court in connection with a dispute with SEBI and Sahara Group. Due to the controversy, Sahara chief remained in Tihar jail for several months. However, later the court released him on parole with conditions.
